Locorotondo is the only city in the world to contain 5 “O” letters in its name, as well as being listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”. Since 2012 the Town has been certified as the Green Flag of the Italian Italian Touring Club thanks to its historical and cultural history. Moreover since then the local people have priced themselves on possessing the Green Flag for agriculture / environmental protection and since 2017 the Yellow Flag as a cycling municipality too.
Cummerse
The territory of Locorotondo has a circular plan at 410 meters above sea level, and is characterized by rectangular dwellings with sloping roofs called “cummerse” made of chiancarelle, in which the soil undernaeath is abbundant. Locorotondo, from the Latin locus rotundus, is a manifestly medieval toponym to indicate the roundness of the hill where the quiet and orderly little Town would then rise, where it is pleasant to walk among the concentric streets of the historic center with sharp roofs and flowered balconies of the typical houses.
Locorotondo is famous, not only for the typical wine that characterizes it, but also for the numerous districts, 146 in all. The most populous districts are called hamlets.

Trulli
The trullo is a type of traditional dry stone construction of central-southern Puglia. The trulli were generally built as temporary shelters in the countryside or permanent dwellings for farmers. A large part of the Alberobello agglomeration in the metropolitan city of Bari (province of Bari), and up to the 1950s also the municipality of Villa Castelli in the province of Brindisi is made up of trulli. The trullo is a refinement of the prehistoric model of thòlos, present in various areas of Italy and the Mediterranean; the trulli are characterized by the continuity of use they have been subjected to.
The origins of trullo buildings in Puglia and in particular of the Trulli of Alberobello – declared UNESCO World Heritage since 6 December 1996 – are the subject of research and debate.
